According to kristv.com, Corpus Christi Police Department spokesman has confirmed a vehicle of interest that could be involved in a fatal hit and run incident that left a one-year-old boy dead Monday morning has been located in the 4900 block of Curtis Clark. Family members have identified the deceased child as Royalty Pernell Coleman.
CCPD says his mother and her three children, one of them in a stroller, were crossing the street at Everhart and Schanen Boulevard when the driver of a truck hit the stroller, killing the child. Police say the driver did not stop.
Corpus Christi Police have confirmed that a one-year-old boy is dead following a hit and run at Everhart and Schanen Boulevard. The assailant’s vehicle is described as a maroon, single-cab Dodge Ram truck.
Officers are reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses to try and identify the vehicle. If the driver is caught, police say that person could be charged with a second-degree felony.
The Corpus Christi Police Department is searching for anyone who may have seen this hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of the one-year-old child. Police have released images of a nearby camera of a car and the people inside who could possibly help with identifying who did this horrendous thing.
The CCPD says they are hoping to speak to the driver of what appears to be a maroon Jeep Cherokee or similar vehicle. The vehicle appears to have some sort of extended cargo carrier attached to the back. The CCPD said in a statement that this vehicle was traveling on Everhart Road near Holly at about 6:43 a.m. Monday, which is when the accident happened.
The statement from the department also states that this vehicle was traveling close to the vehicle that is suspected to have hit the child.
Officers emphasize that the driver of this vehicle is not suspected to be involved in the crash but may be able to provide investigators with information that can help find the person responsible.
Hopefully, these people come forward with information that can help catch the people who committed this egregious act. It is unfathomable how someone could hit another person and just drive off much less do that to a young child.

According to the above statistical data, pedestrian fatalities are on the rise since the previous year. They are at the highest they have been since 1996. More people are walking and riding their bikes due to the new health trends and people trying to get more exercise. People are also considering the economic benefits and opting to walk or ride bicycles when their jobs are close to home as a means save on the cost of gas. Certainly, the economic downturn in recent years has forced some families to go without a vehicle. This does, however, put them at risk of being hit by a car.
