Sleeping Driver Crashes Into North Side Home
According to KSAT 12, North Side homeowner Ronnie Oefinger will be working with insurance adjusters to repair the damage done to his Hidden Forest home by a sleeping driver stated San Antonio police.
Oefinger and another occupant were inside the home, located in the 700 block of Rock Slate, when a pickup came crashing into a front bedroom shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4th 2017.
“We heard this tremendous crash and jumped up, ran in, and saw a truck in the middle of the bedroom there,” he said later, recalling what seemed like a bad dream. “The furniture was slammed against the back wall and was pushed into the bathroom.”
The bedroom, Oefinger said, belongs to his daughter, who is away at college. Occasionally, he said his grandchildren also sleep there. Fortunately, no one was there in the room at the time of the wreck, he said.
Behind the wheel of the truck, Ronnie recognized a security guard who patrols his subdivision.
“I see him around here all the time,” he said. “But it was 12:30 in the morning. He had been up a long time, I’m sure.”
According to officers at the scene, the driver said he fell asleep behind the wheel.
Ronnie is experiencing a living nightmare that many homeowners hope never happens to their property. Random accidents happen all the time and while some may be preventable, some may be completely out of your control. There are certain precautions you can take to try and mitigate any of the unforeseen damage that may occur to your property, like having an insurance policy on your home. Understanding your insurance policy may be crucial in how the cost of your damages to your home will be covered in the event of an accident. Certain types of damages like flooding, hail, or other damages may not be covered under your policy and it may be a good idea to familiarize yourself with what your policy has to offer.
If you find yourself in a situation like Ronnie, seeking the help of a law office you can trust might make things a bit easier. Navigating the storm of property damage and bickering with your insurance company about what is covered and what is not can be a major hassle.
