Two Austin Fires Likely Caused by Lightning

Two Austin fires broke out Tuesday: a house fire in the Avery Ranch subdivision and an apartment fire in north Austin. Firefighters believe the cause may be from lightning strikes.

KXAN reported that the Austin Fire Department responded to a two-story house fire around 1:45 p.m. on Brodick Drive. KXAN’s Jim Spencer said there were three lightning strikes in the area at the time the fire started. Neighbor Gabriel Misura said his father-in-law went outside and saw smoke across the street, they checked the home for the family, but no one was home at the time. The family will be staying with friends. Fire crews said the home’s roof collapsed.

According to talk1370, fire crews responded to an apartment fire just before 6:00 p.m. Ten units of an apartment complex located near Rundberg and Metric suffered fire damages. No injuries were reported, and officials are working with Red Cross to help the displaced residents.
