Workplace Bullying can Have an Impact on the Job

According to NBC DFW,  a recent study shows that bullying isn’t just online and in schools, but in the workplace, as well. Interestingly, the University of North Texas study also revealed that the victim of the workplace bullying isn’t the only one affected. The study indicated that bystanders witnessing the bullying of a co-worker can get caught up in the whole mess.

“A lot of time, bullies like an audience,” said Medina. “Not all of the time, but a good portion of the time they look for an audience. There are different types of bystanders. You have the silent bystander, those who reinforce the bully. Then there are those who come to the aid of the victim.”

The study found that people who observed the workplace bullying felt, if they intervened, they might become a target as well. Also, the individuals in the study were highly inclined to stop any association with the bully. In the end, people who witnessed workplace bullying and were of the same gender as the victim were less likely to identify with the bully.

Workplace Violence and Threats

There are so many ways to get hurt while working at a job. The last thing people need to have to worry about is bullying. Hazing and other forms of bullying are typically frowned upon by most employers. This doesn’t always prevent a bully from harming a co-worker, however. Some people are very good at waiting until there is a prime opportunity to pick on another person.
