In an abc13.com news report, a San Antonio-area couple is facing criminal charges for abusive actions against their own three children. James Chalkley, age 32, received one charge of injury to a child and his wife, Cheyenne, age 22, received 2 charges of injury to a child after punishing their children with some extreme and shocking disciplinary actions. After a teacher noticed marks on their five-year-old child, CPS intervened and talked to the children. The extent of the abuse became apparent during the interview and the kids were removed from their home in Converse and placed in Foster Care. The children told CPS about times where their dad had used an animal shock collar on them as punishment and that he had forced them to brush their teeth so hard it made their mouths bleed. The kids also claimed they had been hit with branches that had thorns on them.
Texas Child Protective Services had contact with the family on at least three occasions, according to the warrants. In one instance in 2016, the children had been left unsupervised. In January this year, the children had been stripped of their clothing, ordered outside and sprayed with cold water as a punishment for misbehavior. The case was then later closed and labeled as high-risk.

This is a very sad case of child abuse and is always sad to hear. Children, most times, cannot defend themselves. Although all 3 children are now in protective custody, we hope that they will never have to suffer this abuse again. While most cases of child abuse may be the result of a family member’s actions, other figures of authority like teachers, babysitters, and coaches have been known to commit abuse towards children. If you have a loved one that has been victim to abuse such as this, we may be able to help you.
